When we started Young Learners this year I knew that Gav would be what should I say Social? I mean truly he comes by that completely honestly. I was moved chairs quiet often in my school days for what my teachers would call 'excessive' talking. Now I would not call it that. I just had to converse with my people. You know about what teach was saying and what was going on around campus the norm.
Anyway, So I went in for Gavins parent teacher conference and his teacher told me that he is the 'Chatty Kathy' of the class. I just smiled. She said that the problem is that he is just SOOO funny she doesn't ever tell him to be quiet. But, she did however, have to switch him seats for the first time. She, in a very smart decision I might add, put him by the 2 quietest girls in class. (I did not have the heart to tell her that those 2 girls probably will not be quiet after sitting by Gav.) :)
So about a week later I pick him up from school and he says,
G:'Mom, I was bad in Music class."
M: Well what did you do?
G: I forgot.
M: What do you mean you forgot?
G: Well I forgot but theres a note in my backpack that you have to sign.
WHat!!! So I pull out the note. It is Bright Green. I might add that this is Gavs fav color. So I am sure he did not get the severity of that. It read.
Your child was asked to leave and not participate in music today due the the following reasons...
There was about 10 choices and these where the 2 marked. Making obscene gestures and not following instructions.
Ok, so now I am panicking a little. I was thinking did he learn to flip someone off? what was he doing?
So I told Gav that we were going to go and talk to his teach and that he had to apologize for acting up in class.
I come in and she says Gavin tell you mom what you did. ALARM~ don't you think I already asked him? I am here to talk to YOU. Let me deal with him. Anyway, he told her he forgot. So she says well this has been going on for 3 weeks now and I just sent you a note. Today he had already been asked not to run in class and then he ran again.
REALLY? is THAT ALL? I know Gav and he would just run because he's excited about something. So I bite my tongue and say OK?
And then I asked the kids to line up in this corner of the room and they were suppose to be following me in a STRAIGHT line. I turned around and Gavin was dancing.
WAIT WAIT WAIT....hold up. For those of you who know me I am pretty witty. I have been known to be very sarcastic and sometimes perceived as even rude. Now I am trying to be the professional parent here ya know. But I am thinking well, was there MUSIC playing? Because I don't know how you do things in your MUSIC class but in our family if theres music we dance! and do you REALLY have nothing better to do than kick my kid out of class for running and dancing? Judas priest.
So I said thank you it will never happen again and walked out?
What do you all think is that lame or do you think it warrants a note home and all?

i think the only reason it makes sense that she sent a note home is because its been going on for a while. so she probably wants you to talk to him about it if he's not listening to her. but what was the obscene gesture?? running? that doesn't make any sense. and those types of behaviors are the kind of thing that you just deal with as a teacher right? you're going to have to tell kids to stop talking and poking each other...and running and dancing, all year long. they're kids.
K- I'm with you, except for I probably would have just been sarcastic and said exactly what you were thinking out loud to her. Judas Preist is right. Judas...
i think the teacher is LaMe! honestly... obscene gestures? what a wackjob!
I think that warrants a note back to her about how stupid she is.
Seriously, if you can't handle happy go lucky kids, you shouldn't be teaching MUSIC class for heaven's freaking sake. I'd have given it to her. (and then taught my son a few REAL obscene gestures) Just kidding, but THAT would be funny.
What a waste of paper. Seriously, you should report HER to the principal for wasting your precious time!!!
